Key details about the role and the candidate

Directly responsible for the delivery of assigned- “central led” projects within the designated time, budget and quality expectations of internal and external customers- by managing and leading project teams to in the #oneteamway toward realisation of set deliverables.

 

You and the role

You will play a key role in planning and executing strategic organizational projects that have been identified as requiring delivery through best practice project methodology. You will do this by managing across multiple stakeholder groups toward a common set of objectives on time and on budget.

This role is for someone who get the fulfilment of watching ideas realized from successful project delivery, gets excitement from the fact no two projects are the same, can think we think in the end in mind and is able to reinforce the importance of structured planning followed by efficient execution. They would need to work across multiple disciplines and communicate clearly across varying stakeholder groups. The project manager should have a keen eye for early project risk mitigation, and opportunities enhancement – while keeping the delivery objectives within scope. An understanding of the PMI methodology for managing projects will be helpful for aligning with the wider Project Management team.

Our H&P Eastern Land, Saudi and International Projects has a rich and growing portfolio of current and future projects covering major rig overhauls, rig startups and reactivations, rig technology upgrades, international rigs moves and new rig fabrication.

 

Primary responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of project activities within the agreed costs
  • Responsible and accountable for project budget and resource allocations
  • Ensure overall performance of projects assigned as measure with the Schedule Forecast and Cost Forecast indices
  • Work with Head of Land Projects on “central led” or “country led” project classification/ assignment
  • Manage delivery of central led project types including- rig fabrication, major refurbishment, international rig moves, major CAT IVs and major rig reactivation projects
  • Participate in commissioning and testing of rigs
  • Ensure that QA and HSE directives are applied to their project
  • Charing project meetings and dedicated decision boards on project tasks
  • Own the timely delivery, utilization, storage and archiving of project documentation
  • Interface with Country functional teams including Country Managers
  • Coordination of technical proposals and utilization of company and industry best practice standards on projects
  • Coordinate Operations readiness planning together with rig operations teams
  • Support other project managers and mentor Assistant project managers and other members of the projects function and project teams
  • As required play coordination role for Country led projects
  • Facilitate the definition of scope, goals and deliverables, tasks, and resource requirements on assigned projects
  • Identify, log, analyse and manage potential and actual issues and risks
  • Own implementation of corrective actions as appropriate
  • Generate requirements, contracts, schedules, project reports, communication records, design specifications, meeting agendas, minutes, status reports, etc.
  • Prepare Project Management Plans in a timely manner
  • Minimize exposure and risk to projects objectives from non-project related activities.
  • Present status reports defining project progress, problems and solutions
  • Implement lessons learned on previous projects and track/ effectively communicated on current projects
  • Participate in other project function tasks to be discussed and agreed on separately with Head of Projects
  • Provides support for special duties within the department and organisation as assigned by the Head of Projects
  • Work with commercial function team to ensure realistic and achievable timelines and budgets are applied to tender exercises and negotiations with clients.
  • Work with Operations managers within Country teams to ensure key project objectives continue to be delivered after project handovers such as through the expected operational performance of rigs
  • Interface with rig manufacturers and other third party as appropriate to hold them accountable for delivery of aspects of project assigned to these stakeholders
  • As required work with third party or contract project managers on common project delivery goals

 

Experience

  • Proven experience in Project Manager, Lead, Engineer, Coordinator or related roles.
  • Experience in new rig fabrication, refurbishment, CATIV inspections, and major rig overhauls
  • Experience with varied reporting tasks, ranging from information only reports to those utilized for decision making as well as those targeted at senior management.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • KPI monitoring and tracking of projects
  • General knowledge of planning, monitoring, closing of projects including the 10 areas outlined by PMI (Project Management Institute) best practice- Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resources, Communications, Risk, Procurement, and stakeholder.
  • Knowledge of Project Risk management methodologies
  • Knowledge of stakeholder management methodologies

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Suitable technical qualification – Engineer / Technician
  • Engineering degree: B.Eng / BSc. in Eng or M.Eng / MSc in Eng desirable
  • PMP certification desirable
  • Proven experience in drilling / Oil & Gas industry / or similar
