Key details about the role and the candidate
Management and operation of the drilling rig according to company guidelines to ensure optimal execution of the drilling programme while adhering to company and task descriptions, the legal regulations and guidelines as well as consideration of economic aspects and the H&P Quality and HSE standards.
Primary responsibilities
- Receive instructions for drilling parameters (WOB, RPM, SPM etc) as well as other work procedures and ensure their correct application. Whenever deemed necessary, within the specified limits, adjust the drilling parameters to improve the drilling progress.
- Operate the drawworks, top drive/rotary table, mud pumps and BOPS during drilling and workover activities
- Supervise all operations taking place on the drill floor and in areas under their control, ensuring that such operations are carried out efficiently and in compliance with authorised Operation Procedures and Group Safety Policy.
- Observe and monitor well conditions through drilling parameters. In the event of down hole problems, take appropriate action.
- Provide advice and guidance to personnel under their authority on all operational matters as required and to supervise specific employees until sufficiently experienced.
- Direct the personnel under their authority in the practical steps to ensure that all working places are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition and all working practices employed are safe.
- Monitor the well for kick warning signs and shutting in the well if any positive kick indications are observed.
- Ensure that health and safety at work and accident prevention are continuously brought to the attention of employees under their authority by means of job supervision, instruction and training.
- Supply information for drilling report ie mud figures and chemicals used.
- Pressure test well control equipment at appropriate stages during drilling to client standards. Record and store test results.
- Maintain accurate records of tubulars run in the hole including pipe tally, full BHA/completion components and critical fishing dimensions.
- Maintain adequate stock and timely ordering of mud pump consumables.
- Evaluate all work to be carried out to the requirement of the Permit-to-work system, initiate Permits-to-work as necessary and ensure that all safety precautions are taken and work is only carried out as stated in the PTW.
- Responsible for the performance management of the personnel under their authority to ensure standards of behaviour and performance expected by the company.
- Moving of the drilling rig after completion of the drilling program, including rigging down/up, making up and running drill pipe, tripping and erecting of mast.
- Professional management of drilling crew and drilling activities.
Experience
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within drilling operations with technical skills in Stuck Pipe Prevention.
- Highly experienced and knowledgeable in their area of expertise.

Minimum qualifications – essential
- Diploma / Degree / Technical Skills
- IWCF level 3 or 4 Experience or equivalent (Wellsharp)
