You and the role
The Instrument Technician is responsible to the Maintenance Supervisor for the maintenance of all instrument / electrical equipment within H&P scope / area of responsibility.
Primary responsibilities
- Maintain and repair as necessary all instrument/electrical equipment, investigating defects and submitting reports as required.
- Maintain a preventative maintenance programme in accordance with Group repair and preventative maintenance procedures as directed by immediate supervisor.
- Ensure that all Third-Party personnel including Service Engineers comply with Group and Installation Safety Procedures
- Liaise with client instrument/electrical supervisors on any matters relating to the safe electrical operation of the installation.
- Ensure that all equipment under their control complies with statutory requirements and is always maintained in a safe condition or is otherwise completely withdrawn from service.
- Monitor any instrument / electrical equipment supplied by other contractors or sub-contractors to ensure that it is suitable for uses within the areas desired
- Plan maintenance and repairs to minimise the effect on the drilling operation and to carry out the maintenance tasks specified by the computerised maintenance system.
- Report any misuse of equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor / Senior Company Representative.
- Recommend and when required embody modifications to equipment or systems to enhance safety, improve rig performance or comply with statutory notices.
- Carry out tasks as part of a multi-discipline maintenance team as operational requirements dictate.
- Provide such information to shore-based engineering personnel as may be required for the smooth operation of Group maintenance objectives.
- Report on parts, tools and supplies needed to maintain the equipment for which they are responsible.
- Carry out tasks in accordance with good engineering practice.
- Carry out and record isolations of electrically driven equipment to be worked on by him/her and others.
- Supply any information required for updating of any drawings, sketches or information on existing and replacement equipment.
- Report any misuse of equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor / Senior electrician.
- Safeguard the rig tools and instruments in their care.
- Supply information for the completion of the Group's reporting system data sheets e.g. Maintenance/Repair/Replacement job cards.
- Carry out tasks as part of a multi-discipline maintenance team as operational requirements dictate.
- Stand-in for alternative work discipline as required.
Experience
- Significant experience working in the drilling industry or with a drilling equipment related to maintenance
- environment.
- Experienced within e- CoW permit to work system.
- Microsoft Office literate.
- Recognised industry apprenticeship.
- Be able to work in an integrated maintenance team.
- Experience of CMMS, i.e. SAP, Maximo.
- Exposure to offshore working environment with some knowledge of Permit systems.

Minimum qualifications – essential
- Recognised Engineering qualification / Trade qualification papers.
- Offshore Survival certificate.
- OGUK Medical.
