Key details about the role and the candidate

The role is responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient, and interruption‑free operation of the assigned drilling and workover rigs while maintaining full compliance with customer requirements, contractual obligations, and internal company standards. The ideal candidate is capable of supervising operational, technical, and administrative rig processes and represents the company professionally in all interactions with clients.

 

You and the role

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of drilling and workover rigs while maintaining full compliance with customer requirements, contractual obligations, and company standards. You will serve as a key operational leader, coordinating technical, administrative, and safety‑related processes and representing the company in all interactions with clients. Your ability to lead diverse teams, make sound operational decisions, and uphold the highest QHSE standards will be essential to the success of the rig and the wider organization.

 

Primary responsibilities 

  • Manage day‑to‑day operations of drilling and workover rigs
  • Ensure execution of customer specifications and compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor and enforce QHSE standards, including KCA Deutag HSE policies and site safety rules (e.g. TOPSET investigations)
  • Conduct facility inspections, audits and safety assessments
  • Maintain communication with clients and participate in rig‑based and operational meetings
  • Prepare operational reports in coordination with the Operations Manager and relevant departments
  • Manage budget planning, cost control and invoicing for the rig
  • Oversee procurement processes and maintenance of consumables and spare parts
  • Lead, motivate and train the Toolpusher and Driller/BOP crews
  • Ensure disciplined execution of maintenance workflows and inspection routines within SAP CMMS 

 

Experience

  • Completed vocational training in drilling technology or related technical field, or equivalent technical degree
  • Professional experience in drilling and workover operations
  • Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Experience in managing teams on drilling sites preferred
  • Competency in administrative and operational coordination
  • International work experience is an advantage

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good English proficiency (written and spoken)
  • Confident MS Office skills; experience with SAP, SAP‑Module, EDRS and CATS is beneficial
  • Problem‑solving mindset with strong decision‑making ability
  • Structured, independent and results‑oriented working style
  • Ability to work in multicultural environments and under demanding operational conditions

 

Minimum qualifications – essential

  • Completed technical training in drilling technology or equivalent technical education
  • Relevant professional experience in drilling or workover operations
  • Solid English language skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office; SAP knowledge preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High willingness to travel and work internationally
  • Strong commitment to safety, communication and conflict‑management skills
